珠簾不捲夜来霜
薫篭玉枕無顔色

Le bois du 梧桐, le wutong ou Sterculier à feuilles de platane (parasol chinois), sert à fabriquer les instruments joués par les lettrés : guqin et guzheng
Zhǎng xìn gōng (長信宮) également appelé le Palais de l’Ouest, était situé dans la résidence impériale Zhǎnglè gōng (長楽宮). Ban Jieyu jouissait des faveurs de l’empereur Cheng qui lui a ensuite préféré Zhao Feiyan et sa sœur Zhao Hede. Elle s’est alors retirée à dans ce palais. Wang Changling a écrit cinq poèmes sur cette histoire dont cette pièce.
L’histoire de Ban Jieyu (班婕妤) est devenu la base d’une pièce de Noh : Hanjo (班女). On raconte que Ban Jieyu a composé un poème « Enkakō » (chant du ressentiment), où elle se compare à un évantail d’été, mis de côté à l’automne. Depuis, une femme abandonnée est appelée « éventail en automne » (秋扇). Hanjo est l’histoire d’une femme qui passe ses jours à contempler l’éventail laissé par son amant, au loin.

黄金の井戸のわきの青桐は紅葉し
玉のすだれは捲かないで、霜が降りている
（昨夜の霜に御簾は下ろしたまま）
香爐かごも黄金の枕も班婕妤の容色にはかなわない
（香炉も玉の枕もいまは輝きを失った）
彼女は南宮の水時計の音を、わびしく寝て聴いたことであろう
（私は寝ながらここまで伝わる南宮の漏刻に耳を澄ませている）

長信宮は西宮ともいい、漢初の皇居長楽宮中にあった。かつて成帝の寵姫の班婕妤（はんしょうじょ）が趙飛燕（ちょうひえん）姉妹に寵を奪われて長信宮に身を引いた。王昌齢はこのことについて五首作った。その一首。
能の演目『班女』はこの班婕妤の故事を元にしている。

Zhǎng xìn gōng (長信宮) was also called the Western Palace and was located within the imperial residence Zhǎnglè gōng (長楽宮). Consort Ban once enjoyed the favor of Emperor Cheng, but when the Emperor took liking to Zhao Feiyan and her sister Zhao Hede and favored them over Consort Ban, she withdrew to Chang Xin Gong. Wang Changling wrote five poems about the story including this piece.
The story of Consort Ban (班婕妤) became the basis of a Japanese Noh piece titled Hanjo (班女). Consort Ban is said to have composed a poem “Enkakō” (Song of Resentment), liking herself to a summer fan, which is cast aside in autumn. Since then, a discarded woman is called a “fan in autumn.” Hanjo is a story of a woman who spends days gazing at a fan left by her lover, who is separated by a long distance.
